HOUSTON – Newborn Isabel was born just a few days ago, but her parents worry what a St. Joseph Medical Center nurse did while in the hospital may have a lasting impact.
“My baby has second-degree burns on her foot and ankle and now we are just trying to get her treated,” Spencer Lewandowski, the baby’s father, said.
He said his little girl suffered second-degree burns while she was getting a PKU test, which is a routine blood-draw for newborns.
“They got a diaper and filled it full of water and put it in the microwave and then applied to my baby’s ankle and foot, which caused second-degree — severe second-degree — burns,” Lewandowski said.
Lewandowski has hired attorney Tim Culberson to represent him.
“The nurse took a diaper, wet it and put in a microwave and then put it on the baby’s heel and hurt the heel. I’ve been representing children with injuries for 16 years and I’ve never heard of this happening,” Culberson said.
“At St. Joseph Medical Center, the safety and care of our patients is our utmost concern,” St. Joseph Medical Center said in a statement to KPRC 2 News. “We are aware of the complaint, and are conducting a thorough investigation that is ongoing. The hospital is committed to providing high quality health services to the communities we serve.”
I’m really excited to be launching my brand new website!
Let me tell you a little bit about myself.
Being blessed to move my practice to the community I live in here in The Woodlands, Texas has given me the opportunity to serve the families and businesses in my community more effectively. Now, residents of The Woodlands have convenient access to an attorney who specializes in medical malpractice/birth injury law, in addition to practicing in other areas of litigation.
“The client comes first” is not just a motto in my practice. I strive to emphasize the counselor aspect of my profession while being a strong advocate for those I represent. Trust is vital to any business relationship. And my goal is to establish that trust as I help the client get through a difficult and challenging time in their life.
Since graduating from the University of Houston Law Center in 1999, I have had the unique experience of representing: both patients and health care providers in medical negligence cases, small business owners in business transactions and litigation, individuals or couples needing a trust or will set up, persons injured in auto accidents, construction workers injured on sites, and persons injured due to product defects from all over the country.
I have successfully represented clients in multi-million dollar settlements. And when necessary, have taken my clients’ case to the courthouse to try their case to a jury of their peers. And I look forward to talking with you about your legal needs.
